It has been estimated that up to 1% of Michigan's female population could be affected by a bleeding disorder called von Willebrand disease. Shockingly, less than 800 women statewide have been diagnosed and receive appropriate care at a federally funded treatment center. Thousands of women in Michigan have bleeding symptoms that are not diagnosed or have been misdiagnosed leading to unnecessary hysterectomies.
The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan is dedicated to providing educational opportunities to women with bleeding disorders as well as to the general public. The goal of our women's programs is to increase awareness and referrals to appropriate medical facilities for care and to provide ongoing education to improve the lives of women with bleeding disorders.
