What is MYLIFE?
MYLIFE (Michigan Youth: Leadership Initiative for Education) is a hand-picked group of teens who develop educational programs for other youth in the bleeding disorder community.
Who is on MYLIFE?
The MYLIFE team changes with each school year as older members age out and move away and younger members move into leadership roles within the group. MYLIFE members are teens who have shown leadership potential at other HFM events or through their HTCs.
How does MYLIFE function?
The MYLIFE team meets at retreat centers and campgrounds around the state for planning retreats. These one or two night retreats are packed with leadership building activities, brainstorming sessions, program development, and cultural activities. Tim Wicks, HFM's Education and Youth Programs Coordinator runs the weekends with help from older members of MYLIFE. The planning retreats are sometimes as much, if not more fun than the events we plan.
How much does it cost?
Being on MYLIFE does not cost members anything. It's a big commitment and hard work and HFM values this hard work. We try to reward MYLIFE members with exciting events and retreats.
Why should I be on MYLIFE?
In addition to having a direct say on the programming for SpringFest, Teen Retreat and Bleeder and a Buddy, MYLIFE is a great way to stay connected with other teens with bleeding disorders. The work you do at MYLIFE provides a great service to the bleeding disorder community. Many MYLIFE members use their work with HFM for their volunteer hours required for graduation. MYLIFE is also a great resume builder. The relationship you will build with the HFM staff is also a big bonus. When writing letters of recommendation for MYLIFE members, Tim is able to speak to their leadership and dedication from an angle unique to most high school students.
