Getting Grateful with Amar and Allie

Let’s be honest – this time of year can be a lot.

Whether you’re carrying the weight of grief, navigating complicated family dynamics, or feeling the seasonal blues, you’re not alone. That’s why this session was created, with one goal in mind: to offer a gentle pause and a fresh perspective when life feels heavy.
Together, we’ll explore a simple but powerful tool called the Gratitude Wheel, designed to help you reflect on the support systems in your life—even the unexpected ones. Think: the kind barista who remembers your coffee order, the stranger who held the door, or the mechanic who helped on your worst day. These small moments may not “fix” everything, but they can shift your mindset and help you face what’s next with more resilience.
We’ll also touch on the science behind gratitude—why it works, how it affects your brain, and why it’s more than just a buzzword.

Come as you are. Leave with something meaningful.

Speaker: Allie McComber, MPA

Allie earned her Master’s in Public Administration from Oakland University in December 2024, graduating early. With over seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector, she has worked with various organizations and remains deeply committed to making a positive impact in her community. Recently, Allie joined the Brain Injury Association of Michigan as the Program Outreach Coordinator. She’s incredibly grateful for the support from HFM and the impact they have had on her life. She is thrilled to now have the same opportunity to give back and bring that same care and dedication to the brain injury community. Outside of work, Allie enjoys powerlifting, reading, baking, and spending time at the beach when it’s warm!

Michigan families are eligible to receive a meal reimbursement and/or shipped supplies for virtual activities! While we are only able to offer this particular perk to Michigan residents, we do hope that EVERYONE feels welcome to join our virtual programs to receive education and connection. Please join us!
