Insurance is the lifeline to care for the bleeding disorders community. Empower yourself with the knowledge you need to be your best advocate!
Speaker: Peggy Kahn, Michigan Medicare Assistance Program (MMAP) Counselor, Washtenaw County

Peggy began counseling with MMAP 2 years after retiring from the University of Michigan – Flint in 2020, where she was a Professor of Political Science teaching health and social policy. She was drawn to Medicare assistance work by her commitment to affordable and adequate healthcare as the foundation of personal autonomy and well-being and by her realization of the inordinate navigation burdens and risks the system imposes. Peggy works with a wide variety of Medicare beneficiaries — those receiving Medicare by virtue of both age and disability, people in a broad range of income categories, beneficiaries with diverse racial and ethnic identities, beneficiaries using different types of Medicare insurance, and beneficiaries with a wide range of health conditions and statuses.

Her research included a variety of pieces on low-income women’s dilemmas in accessing and balancing public benefits, employment, education, and childcare services. She also tutors in the Family Learning Institute’s Ypsilanti Reading Tutoring program and participates in the Michigan Butterfly Network’s census program.

HFM will treat attendees to dinner during this educational program.
